Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) Monastery
One of the amazing things about the Hudson Valley is the concentration and diversity of Buddhist Centers. Woodstock is home for the North American seat of the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, head of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.
Founded in 1976, the KTD Monastery has grown into a sizeable center offering many programs and retreats. The Karmapa has a desire and a vision to increase global awareness and participation in helping the environment.
In the fall of 2010, with the help of a New York State Grant, SOLARgeneration was happy to design and install a 50 kW solar array for KTD free of charge. The array helps to power the main shrine building and the dormitory and is quite visible from the central courtyard. Since the installation, our donation has raised awareness in countless visitors and has saved KTD nearly $35,000 in electric bills.
